"Sinking Sundarbans" - photo by Supratim Bhattacharjeeg - overall winner MAP announces photo contest winners for 2024 GLOBAL - Mangrove Action Project – a global charity dedicated to promoting science-based training to conserve and protect mangroves – has announced the winners of the annual Mangrove Photography Awards. The competition invites photographers of all ages and levels to submit images that showcase the beauty, diversity and fragility of mangrove forests worldwide. As in previous years, we’re proud to bring together some of the world’s most celebrated conservationists, wildlife photographers and videographers. This year’s judging panel includes one of India’s most accomplished nature and wildlife photographers, Dhritiman Mukherjee; National Geographic Explorer and International League of Conservation Photographers senior fellow Morgan Heim; and Christian Ziegler, a renowned photojournalist specialising in natural history, conservation and science stories.  READ MORE

Shrimp farms threaten Mexico’s mangroves and the jaguars that inhabit them MEXICO - Habitat loss and poaching have shrunk jaguars’ distribution across Mexico by 54%, with about 4,000 to 5,000 of the big cats left in the wild today. In Nayarit, land used for agriculture and aquaculture rose from 38% to 50% over a 20-year period.
