Dear Mr. Keeley,
The Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran 1971) will celebrate its 40th Anniversary on February 2nd 2011. In this regards, the Government of Mexico and the Ramsar Secretariat are organizing the celebration in the Americas, which will take place in the city of Huatulco, Mexico from January 31st to February 2nd 2011. The main objective of this celebration is to raise awareness among stakeholders on the achievements and importance of the Ramsar Convention in the Americas during its 40 years trajectory, emphasizing on the conservation and wise use of wetlands in the region.
All Contracting Parties in the Americas are participating in the event, as well as the representatives of non-contracting parties, the Convention’s International Organization Partners, regional and national non-governmental organizations, academia, along with high level political and environmental personalities as special guests.
As part of the celebration, a wetland festival is being organized which includes symposiums to exchange experience and the award ceremony of the call for proposals on Ramsar Site managers activities and schools promoting the wise use of wetlands in the Americas. Furthermore, exhibitions and other educational activities will take place during the festival (attached program).
Following the request of the Senior Advisor for the Americas, Ms. María Rivera, we would like to invite you to participate by preparing a presentation on your Education work in the Caribbean, to this end the Secretariat will cover the expenses for your participation.
